Welcome to a website featuring the writings of author and teacher Karen Strawn

Karen has written hundreds of articles for newspapers in Austin and Chicago area. She is currently co-writing a novel with brother Buddy Strawn about the restoration of the American family titled "The Marriage Pill."

As a regular contributing writer between 1996-1999 for the Central Illinois daily newspaper The Pantagraph, Karen wrote a monthly column featuring local musicians as well as concert and book reviews, travel pieces and feature articles.

While working on staff between 1990-1996 in the Advertising department for the Austin American-Statesman, Karen wrote Travel features for Austin's daily newspaper as a contributing writer.

In 1997, Karen's professional journalism career took an unexpected turn from the newsroom to the classrooms of American public school. Three events, the birth of her son, the death of her husband and a trip to Morocco, set her on a course of full time teaching.

Karen currently teaches fourth grade on a US Air Force base in Japan. Karen spent three years teaching first and second grade on a US Air Force base in Turkey before moving to Asia with her 14-year-old son and large, orange dog.

Watch for her short stories about daily military life, unexpected romance, life in a Moslem democracy and moving from the Middle East to the Far East.
