Karen
has written hundreds of articles for newspapers in Austin and Chicago
area. She is currently co-writing a novel with brother Buddy Strawn
about the restoration of the American family titled "The Marriage
Pill."
As a regular contributing
writer between 1996-1999 for the Central Illinois daily newspaper
The Pantagraph, Karen wrote a monthly column featuring local musicians
as well as concert and book reviews, travel pieces and feature articles.
While working on staff
between 1990-1996 in the Advertising department for the Austin American-Statesman,
Karen wrote Travel features for Austin's daily newspaper as a contributing
writer.
In 1997, Karen's professional
journalism career took an unexpected turn from the newsroom to the
classrooms of American public school. Three events, the birth of
her son, the death of her husband and a trip to Morocco, set her
on a course of full time teaching.
Karen currently teaches
fourth grade on a US Air Force base in Japan. Karen spent three
years teaching first and second grade on a US Air Force base in
Turkey before moving to Asia with her 14-year-old son and large,
orange dog.
Watch for her short stories
about daily military life, unexpected romance, life in a Moslem
democracy and moving from the Middle East to the Far East.
